Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
A fast-growing consultancy and technology-led business requires an experienced interim CFO to provide senior financial leadership during a period of planned leave cover. Initially expected to run for 2–3 months, the assignment will support the CEO, Board and wider leadership team across both strategic and operational finance activity.
The business operates within a project-led, utilisation-driven environment, meaning this role requires somebody commercially astute, operationally hands-on and comfortable partnering across multiple functions rather than simply leading a finance department from a distance.
You’ll step into a visible leadership position, providing stability, challenge and financial direction from day one.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
- Providing strategic financial leadership to support growth, profitability and operational scalability
- Acting as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board on commercial decisions, investments and business performance
- Leading financial planning, forecasting and scenario modelling aligned to medium and long-term objectives
- Overseeing accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations
- Presenting financial performance, cashflow forecasting and risk analysis to senior stakeholders
- Managing working capital, liquidity and broader cashflow strategy to maintain financial resilience
- Supporting pricing models, consultancy rate structures and margin optimisation across service lines
- Monitoring project profitability, utilisation metrics and operational performance indicators
- Leading financial input into bids, proposals and client contract reviews
- Ensuring strong financial governance, controls and audit readiness across the organisation
- Partnering closely with operational, delivery and commercial teams to support decision making
- Managing relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, banking partners and advisors The successful candidate will likely bring:
- Previous experience operating at CFO or Finance Director level within a professional services, consultancy or technology-led business
- Strong understanding of project-based accounting, revenue recognition and utilisation-driven commercial models
- A track record of supporting business growth, operational scaling and financial transformation
- Excellent technical finance capability across budgeting, forecasting, modelling and commercial analysis
- Experience improving systems, reporting processes and finance operations
- Credibility operating at Board level with the ability to influence senior stakeholders quickly
Exposure to private equity-backed businesses, M&A activity or high-growth environments would be advantageous, though not essential.
