Interim Management Accountant (3-month initial contract with potential to go permanent)

You know how some finance roles say “strategic business partner” — but then hand you a spreadsheet from 2014 and expect you to magically fix it?

Yeah, this isn’t that.

This organisation a community-focused not-for-profit provider based in South Leeds actually wants someone who’ll bring numbers to life. Not just report them, but use them to help senior leaders make better decisions. The kind that keep the lights on, improve services, and make sure every pound does what it’s supposed to.

You’ll be the person the Finance Director turns to when they need clear analysis, not jargon. Someone who can tell a non-finance manager why their budget’s out of line in a language they understand.

The job:

  • Partner with the Senior Leadership Team and managers to make sure financial information drives decisions, not just fills inboxes
  • Produce budgets, forecasts and business plans that are robust, not wishful thinking
  • Monitor cashflow, spot risks early, and propose fixes before anyone panics
  • Challenge inefficiencies and highlight where things could work better
  • Prepare year-end accounts and help keep audit recommendations on track

The person:

  • You’ll already have experience supporting budget-holders – ideally in a complex or public/third sector environment – and you’ll know how to explain financial stuff to people who glaze over when you say “variance analysis.”
  • You might be qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), working towards it, or qualified by experience.
  • A bit of management experience would be great too, there are finance staff who’ll look to you for direction, so knowing how to lead without micromanaging will help.

Why this one’s worth a look:

  • It’s a three-month interim contract to start, but they’re open about the fact that it could easily go permanent.
  • You’ll get flexibility (3 days in South Leeds, 2 from home), a salary that reflects your experience, and the satisfaction of working somewhere that’s about more than just the bottom line.

If you like the idea of using your financial skills to actually make a difference this is probably worth a chat.
