International Women’s Day is upon us and it’s always a great cause to celebrate. Not least because with our two latest appointments, Sharon Phillips, Head of Transactional Finance, and Sam Goodwin, Marketing Manager, the women now officially outnumber the men in the Headstar team for the first time.
‘Break the bias’ is this year’s theme for International Women’s Day, aiming to encourage gender equality and a world that is diverse and inclusive, where difference is valued and celebrated. At Headstar, we always champion diversity and seek to create equal opportunities, not just within our own team, but also for all the job roles which we recruit for.
It continues to be important to break down gender stereotypes and bias in the finance profession, as there is a lingering misconception that it is still dominated by men. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, 58% of the candidates we have placed in the first two months of 2022 were women.
Reflecting on the importance of seeing women represented in senior roles within businesses, Sue Moul, one of our Portfolio Finance Directors, said, “The importance of female role models for women at every stage of their career in finance cannot be overemphasised. International Women’s Day gives us all a chance to celebrate and be inspired by women from all sorts of backgrounds doing incredible things with their lives.”
Meanwhile, Natalie McGregor, our Commercial Director, added, “We have to be the women we want our daughters to be. I never dreamed of success, I always worked for it and grafted hard since the day I started working. I was determined to succeed as a woman especially, you don’t get there by wishing for it or hoping for it, but by working hard for it. It’s tried and tested, and now I’m a business owner in my thirties!”
