As part of our Employee Wellbeing Programme, this quarter’s focus is physical wellbeing – encouraging the team to step away from their desks, get moving, and spend time together outside of work.
So, what better way to do that than a guided walking tour around the historic town of Knaresborough?
Led by our former Chair, Neil Muffitt, the team spent the afternoon exploring the town’s rich history and intriguing stories.
Four Seasons in One Afternoon
Although it’s fair to say the weather didn’t look promising when we first arrived.
Almost on cue, the heavens opened with torrential rain followed by hailstones. But composed as ever, Neil assured everyone it would clear shortly.
And somehow, he was right.
The skies brightened, the sun even made an appearance, and we were able to enjoy the tour properly.
A Walk Through Knaresborough’s History
The official tour took the team through centuries of Knaresborough history, folklore and local legend – from tales of castles and caves to some of the town’s most famous characters.
With plenty of hidden details and stories you’d probably never discover on your own, it was a brilliant way to see the town from a completely different perspective.
Ross Wallace, Executive Consultant at Headstar, said: “We had a brilliant tour guided by Neil. From the English Civil War, to Mother Shipton, to Beryl Burton and Blind Jack – there’s seemingly nothing Neil didn’t know about the town and its history. An excellent way to spend an afternoon and learn a huge amount along the way.”
Ending the Day Properly
Once we’d walked up an appetite, the team headed over to Six Poor Folk for a well-earned meal to round off the afternoon.
We’d genuinely recommend the walking tour – and if you’re lucky, you may even end up with Neil as your guide.
