This week marked the inspiring launch of HerFinance Circle, a new community created for female CFOs, Finance Directors and aspiring finance leaders across Yorkshire.
Hosted at Banyan, Leeds, the morning brought together over 40 senior women in finance for the first of many events focused on connection, confidence, and community.
The event featured a powerful keynote from Caroline Woolley, Holistic Executive Coach, on imposter syndrome and finding your voice – setting the tone for honest, thought-provoking discussion. Caroline reminded attendees that although women make up 41% of the global workforce, only 28% reach senior leadership roles.
In a live Q&A, Sarah Ashby, CFO at Mamas & Papas, spoke candidly about her career journey, the gendered lens through which ambition is often viewed, and how empathy and collaboration in leadership can drive commercial success. “I frequently get told I’m too ambitious. But if I were a man, I’d just be called driven,” she said, reflecting on how female leadership styles are still too often misunderstood or undervalued.
Attendees also supported a Clothing Drive for Smart Works Leeds, a charity that helps women back into employment through coaching and high-quality interview clothing. The response was fantastic, with dozens of donations brought along to help make a difference.
Jenny Martin, Director at Headstar who founded the new initiative, said:
“What’s great about HerFinance Circle is that it gives women a chance to come together, share experiences and support each other. C-suite level roles within Finance are still very male dominated, so it’s valuable to have a space like this where we can build connections and confidence.”
This was just the beginning. HerFinance Circle will continue to grow with regular events, mentoring opportunities, and a space for real conversations about navigating female leadership.
