Finance Manager- Temp-to-Perm

We’re partnering with a growing, projects-based business in Halifax that is looking for a hands-on Finance Manager to take ownership of its finance function and bring greater structure, accountability and control.
This is not simply a BAU Finance Manager role. The business needs someone who can step in, understand what’s happening, work through the backlog, establish better processes and become the key link between finance and the wider business.
It’s an opportunity for someone who enjoys having an impact and isn’t afraid to roll their sleeves up.
The Role
Reporting to the Group MD, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day finance operation and work closely with the existing team to improve how the function operates.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Assessing the current finance function and identifying priorities
- Working through the existing backlog and bringing accounts up to date
- Establishing clear processes, responsibilities and deadlines
- Taking ownership of management accounts and transactional finance
- Reviewing P&L and balance sheet performance
- Completing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations
- Overseeing payment allocations and accounts payable
- Bringing greater structure and accountability to the finance team
- Reviewing the current outsourcing arrangements and supporting the transition of work back in-house
- Acting as the link between finance and the wider operational business
- Identifying inefficiencies and implementing practical improvements
- Ensuring financial tasks are completed accurately and on time
You’ll need to be comfortable getting into the detail yourself rather than simply managing from a distance.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced Finance Manager who can take ownership and hit the ground running.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong experience across P&L, balance sheet and management accounts
- Excellent understanding of the full finance process
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and transactional finance
- Strong Xero experience
- Experience within a project-based, contracting or construction environment
- Understanding of WIP, cost of sales and project accounting
- Strong process improvement skills
- The confidence to challenge existing ways of working
- A hands-on, organised and proactive approach
Construction or project-based experience would be particularly relevant, although direct experience within the company’s specific industry isn’t required.
