Tax Assistant

Are you an experienced Tax Assistant looking for a role where you’ll have genuine client exposure, work with interesting individuals and businesses, and have the opportunity to develop your career?

We’re working with a long-established independent accountancy practice in North Leeds that is looking to strengthen its tax team with a Tax Assistant.

Established for almost 90 years, the firm has built a strong reputation for the quality of its work and the relationships it develops with clients. The Leeds office has recently undergone a significant refurbishment, creating a modern and professional working environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around 18 months+ practice experience who wants to continue developing within a supportive and progressive tax team.

The Role
You’ll manage your own portfolio of approximately 150 personal tax clients, including High-Net-Worth Individuals, company directors and partnerships.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of personal tax clients
  • Preparing and reviewing personal tax returns
  • Dealing with client queries and providing tax advice where appropriate
  • Managing payment reminders and other client correspondence
  • Liaising with HMRC on a range of queries
  • Working with solicitors, accountants, tax advisers and independent financial advisers
  • Supporting the Tax Manager and Assistant Managers with more complex tax returns
  • Assisting with Making Tax Digital quarterly submissions
  • Supporting corporation tax computations and CT600s
  • Helping ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the tax department

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to develop your technical knowledge while working closely with experienced members of the team.

You’ll ideally have:

  • At least 18 months’ relevant experience within an accountancy practice
  • Previous experience preparing personal tax returns
  • Strong communication and client management skills
  • A proactive and organised approach
  • A dependable and professional attitude
  • The ability to manage your own workload and take ownership
