This is a payroll role that actually has some bite to it.

If youโ€™re the sort of person who can take 5,000 employees, multiple payrolls, a stack of statutory obligations, a sprinkle of IR35, and still sleep at nightโ€ฆ youโ€™re not just โ€œgood with payrollโ€ and youโ€™re probably mildly underappreciated.

This is a real opportunity to improve how things are done, not just tick boxes and hope nobody notices the month-end panic.

๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฒ:

Youโ€™ll be running end-to-end payroll across multiple payrolls for around 5,000 people. That means starters, leavers, adjustments, pensions, benefits, and the occasional โ€œwhy is this different this month?โ€ conversation that turns out to have a very long answer.

Youโ€™ll also be involved in:

โ€ข Supporting payroll migrations across different business units (yes, systems changesโ€ฆ everyoneโ€™s favourite)
โ€ข Managing IR35 and third-party payments without breaking a sweat
โ€ข Handling HMRC submissions and statutory reporting accurately the first time (imagine that)
โ€ข Liaising with external providers who will all have โ€œjust one quick questionโ€
โ€ข Keeping benefits and pensions aligned, compliant, and not on fire

๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚โ€™๐—น๐—น ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ (๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ):

โ€ข Proper, hands-on payroll experience across multiple payrolls
โ€ข The ability to think in gross-to-net without reaching for a calculator every time
โ€ข Strong Excel skills (not โ€œI can do a SUMโ€, actual Excel competence)
โ€ข Familiarity with statutory payments (SMP, SSP, the usual alphabet soup)
โ€ข Understanding of IR35, pensions auto-enrolment, salary sacrifice, and all the other things that make payroll โ€œfunโ€
โ€ข A detail obsession that others might describe as โ€œslightly intenseโ€
โ€ข The judgement to know when to escalate, and when to quietly fix it before anyone asks
